A Facebook page is not a website

Social apps are useful. They are not yours, they are not a Maps listing, and they disappear from search the moment the algorithm shrugs.

I hear this every month: “We already have Facebook.” Good. Keep it. It still does not do the job of a site with your name, your address, and a page Google can quote.

You rent the shop window

Facebook can change the reach of your posts overnight. Links break. Pages get restricted. Your “URL” is a path on someone else’s domain. When a customer googles your trade plus your town, they expect yourname.fr — not a login wall.

A website you control still works in five years. A boosted post from 2023 does not.

Google and Maps do not treat a Facebook page as your home

Maps wants a website field. Search wants a page with your services in plain language. A Facebook about box is thin, often duplicated, and hard to index cleanly.

AI chat tools that recommend a local business also lean on real websites and Maps profiles — not a photo dump.

Use social to send people home, not as home

Post the Saturday special. Link to the site for hours, bookings, and the legal bits. That split is boring and it works.

If you only have time for one thing this quarter, make the site and the Google profile honest. Then post.
